From Battersea to Birdland- the George Shearing Story

on BBC Radio 2

2/4. Nancy Wilson presents a profile of veteran jazz pianist
George Shearing , who is 85 this month. The story continues with a look at his move to America, where in 1949 his newly formed quintet recorded the now-classic September in the Rain, which featured the piano style that would become his trademark.
The quintet attracted talent like guitarist and harmonica player Jean "Toots" Thielemans and vibes player Gary Burton.
