Families at War

on BBC One London

Second of three programmes. 'There was this - I'll never forget it - big orange flash and I saw this cloud of black dust ... and then I could hear bells, alarm bells ringing and the pain was desperate.' The Choir
In 1969, Mervyn Lewers was a choirboy at Londonderry
Cathedral. Like all the other members of the choir, he was a Protestant in a city where the majority is Catholic. When he grew older, he joined the RUC and served for ten years. One night, after he'd left the force, he went for a drink with a friend not far from the cathedral. His car exploded and he lost his right leg.
In tonight's programme Peter Taylor traces the fortunes of six boys in the choir of 1969. One is dead, killed 'on active service'. Another has married a Catholic, another has left
Northern Ireland. All of them have been touched and profoundly changed by 20 years of Troubles. Cameraman TONY MALLON Film editor ROBERT BROWN
