PATRIOTISM AND RESISTANCE IN VICHY FRANCE

After France's defeat in 1940 she was divided into two zones: the German-occupied Northern area and the Southern ' Vichy ' zone. Mr. Kedward has been researching into the Resistance that developed in Vichy France and talking to some of the surviving Resisters. What were their motives? Is ' patriotism '-the usual answer-a sufficient explanation?
