Bette Davis with Claude Rains
New York, 1914: to save her brother Trippy from scandal, Fanny Trellis marries wealthy banker Job Skeffington. The marriage is soon threatened by Fanny's succession of lovers and when Trippy is killed in action in France, her disregard for her husband turns to open contempt.
