This year the emi Elstree Studios at Borehamwood celebrate their 50th anniversary.
We look back over those 50 years, from the days when British International Pictures made their first silent films there, through to the present day when Elstree - which nearly closed its doors a short while ago- is once again a thriving studio.
We talk to directors Alfred Hitch cock and Ken Russell , to Douglas Fairbanks Jr , Roger Moore , Sylvia Syms , John Mills , Bryan Forbes and Elstree's Managing Director Andrew Mitchell. And we take a look at films like Blackmail, Blossom Time, The Dancing Years, Woman in a Dressing Gown, The Dam Busters, Ice Cold in Alex, Happy Go Lovely, The Punch and Judy Man , The Railway Children, Murder on the Orient Express and many others.
