Thirty-eight years ago, Dorothy Pilley and her husband I.A. Richards made the first ascent of the North Ridge of the Dent Blanche in Switzerland - a climb which even today the climbing guide book describes as 'very, very difficult - a great route and a long day - not done again after the first ascent, for fifteen years.'
This summer they went back to the Val d'Herens, just to nod to their favourite mountain, only to be caught up in festivities celebrating the original ascent of the mountain in 1862.
