The Cowra Breakout

on BBC One London

An Australian film drama in five parts about the events leading to a suicidal breakout by more than 1,000 Japanese prisoners from a PoW camp in Cowra in 1944. 2: The horrific realities of jungle warfare leave Stan and Junji equally scarred. Junji cannot come to terms with being a prisoner and attempts to continue the war against the enemy. Stan believes he has come to Cowra to guard the Italian PoWs, but when he is ordered to guard the Japanese, the horrors of New Guinea are revived. There is the chance to renew an acquaintance and put the war behind him, until a new guard captain arrives and old wounds are re-opened.
