Not the Caribbean island, but one of South Africa's most spectacular water systems - in Zululand at the edge of the Indian Ocean. The food-rich, shallow water of the lake is a magnet to countless wading birds. It's a wilderness where contact with man is kept to a minimum, the haunt of hippo, breeding ground for crocodiles and haven for water mongoose, which will steal the crocodile's eggs - if it dares!
