with Richard Pasco as John Henry Newman, Nigel Anthony as Edward Pusey
In 1845 John Henry Newman, co-founder and leading spirit of the Oxford Movement within the Church of England, suddenly and dramatically decided to become a Roman Catholic. It was a decision that shocked not only intellectuals, but virtually the whole of English society.
'You, Mr Newman? You seek admission to the Catholic church? But you are the most notable Anglican divine in the land. Together with Mr Pusey and Mr Keble , you have founded the Oxford Movement, which underpins and strengthens the entire established Church; It is surely hardly conceivable.'
