A programme for children under five
"Please what colour did Mr. Rabbit and Mr. Badger paint the bus that went to town every day at 10 a.m.?" This query was aroused in the mind of a small boy who heard Hilda Ashby 's story, "The Country Bus." And here, for us, was still one more reminder of the vivid, concrete nature of the experience that our stories may bring to the children who hear them. This old country bus, a thing of invention to us, was real to our young correspondent, and of course it was highly important when it was to be re-furbished and put once more into commission that its colour should be known. How else, indeed, could the act of painting be envisaged? Some, perhaps, may be satisfied to imagine the colour for themselves, but this boy wanted to know. Those who listen again to she story on Wednesday and Thursday will find the question answered, if they are really concerned to know. For the other stories this week, they hear, today, "A Place for Everything" by Herbert McKay; tomorrow, "The Dutch Doll" by Ruth Ainsworth; and on Friday, a birthday story, "Martin's Birthday Present" by B. Begley.
