The Element String Quartet:
Ernest Element (violin) Sylvia Cleaver (violin) Dorothy Hemming (viola) Norman Jones (cello)
All the works in this programme are being broadcast for the first time. Kenneth Harding's Duet Rhapsody for soprano and viola is based on James Joyce's poem 'Strings in the earth and air,' though only the first few words are set to music. Stephen Dodgson's Fantasy was written last year for Marie Korchinska. Robert Simpson's Quartet, also completed last year, is dedicated 'to Georges Enesco in deepest admiration.'
