The Survivors written by RICHARD TOWNSHEND BICKERS with Bernard Braden
On the night of December 17, 1928, in foul weather, several miles off the tip of Cape Cod, the United States Submarine S.4 surfaced directly in the path of United States Coastguard Destroyer Paulding. The collision sent S.4 to the bottom. There seemed little hope for those of the crew who were trapped in the crippled submarine.
