Several of the worlds major cities could disappear in a few minutes after sudden and catastrophic volcanic eruptions. In the past, activity at Pompeii and Krakatoa was not anticipated, but geologists today are beginning 10 predict volcanic outbursts. This may save the lives of millions of people.
