Praise o' Dorset

on BBC Radio 2

As well as writing books and pamphlets on a wide variety of topics, the 19th-century schoolmaster, antiquarian and clergyman William Barnes wrote hundreds of poems in his local dialect. In tonight's programme Pete Shutler plays the part of Barnes and, aided by fellow
Dorsetmen the Yetties and folk tunes of the period, recounts his love for his native county. Producer Stuart Hobday
