Film Matinee: A tribute to Glenn Miller: The Glenn Miller Story

on BBC One London

Starring James Stewart, June Allyson
and featuring guest stars Louis Armstrong, Frances Langford, Gene Krupa, Ben Pollack, The Modernaires

Just 25 years ago, in December 1944, a single-engined plane disappeared over the English Channel ending the career of one of the world's great band leaders: Glenn Miller.
James Stewart achieves a remarkable likeness to Miller, brilliantly capturing both his modesty and his acutely professional musicianship. The film includes orchestral re-creations of such Miller hits as 'Moonlight serenade,' 'In the mood' and 'Little brown jug'; there could be no finer tribute to this great musician.
