The rchroadcast of this recording made by Cyril Maude in 1947 had already been planned as a tribute to him on the occasion of his eighty-ninth birthday when the news of his death was received last February. It is fitting that the last record- ing he made should have been in the part which endeared him to theatre-goersmore than any other of the vast number that he played during his fifty years of distinguished activity in the th'atre. This broadcast, which he was to have introduced himself, will he prefaced by a tribute to him by his friend S. R. Little- wood, the dramatic critic.
