Julia Robinson-Dean was thrilled when she found a new species of bird in Indonesia. But excitement gave way to a serious ethical dilemma. Her photos, notes and DNA samples were not enough to give the bird a name - and that meant it could not be given international protection. Scientists were unanimous: a specimen was required.
