Julian Bream
Julian Bream fell in love with the sound of the guitar at the age of 11, having heard a recording of Segovia. The classical guitar was virtually unknown in this country, and he was only allowed to enter the Royal
College of Music on condition that he study piano and composition. But
Bream's determination won through, and he has done more than anyone to popularise the classical guitar. In today's programme, he talks to Joan Bakewell about his early career. Music includes:
Tarrega Recuerdos de la Alhambra Dowland Fantasie
Morley Joyne Hands
Sor Introduction and Variations on a Theme by Mozart, Op 9
