Oil Rig

on BBC Radio 3

A sound portrait in binaural stereo.
Among the giant, floating drilling barges which have explored the North Sea for oil, Sea Quest has a special place. A veteran of more than ten years' experience, it has been notably successful finding gas and oil in vast quantities.
But what is it really like to live and work in the hazardous conditions of the North Sea? A BBC team lived on board Sea Quest with the latest recording equipment to try to recreate in sounds and voices that experience.
The field recordings were made by Leo Feorid and Lloyd Silverthorne
The technical realisation in binaural sound was by Lloyd Silverthorne
The programme was compiled and directed by Tony Simmons

(For appreciation of the binaural effect this programme should be listened to on stereo headphones)
