2: Cherubini and Ingres
When the great French painter Ingres painted Luigi Cherubini , he looked forward eagerly to the composer's reaction. It was an original composition showing Cherubini deep in thought, but much to Ingres's disappointment Cherubini said nothing, and it was only on the day of Cherubini's death that Ingres learned that Cherubini had written a canon in his honour to thank him for the picture.
