Britain's Linford Christie has beaten American Carl Lewis twice in head-to-head 100m clashes this month, but this evening the world title is at stake. Christie won at
Gateshead, where Lewis trailed in third, and then in Zurich Olympic gold medallist Christie again beat the man who has won the last three world championships. This time, however, Christie himself was beaten into second place, by another American, Leroy Burrell , who has not qualified for the world championship. Tonight's other finals are the women's shot put and long jump, and men's hammer and 20km walk.
