The Films of Alfred Hitchcock: Foreign Correspondent

on BBC One London

A selection of feature films directed by the master of suspense.
This week: Foreign Correspondent
Starring Joel McCrea, Laraine Day
with Herbert Marshall, George Sanders

An American reporter sent to Europe in 1939 to cover the political situation stumbles upon a Nazi-controlled international espionage organisation and narrowly escapes with his life.
Hitchcock's first two American films, Rebecca and Foreign Correspondent, though stylistically poles apart, won instant acclaim. Tonight's movie had all the ingredients of a Hitchcock thriller with the added advantage that it was released at a time when espionage and Fifth Column activity were already a reality in Europe.
