World Cup 98 Live: USA v Iran

on BBC One London

Live coverage of the Group F meeting from the Stade de Gerland in Lyon (kickoff
8pm). While these two teams are expected to be the group's also-rans, this is nevertheless an eagerly awaited fixture, not least because the two countries haven't had any diplomatic relations for nearly 20 years.
This culture clash carries much political baggage but on the field it could prove to be an entertaining encounter. The Americans, under their coach Steve Sampson, are committed to an attacking style but a lack of pace in defence may hinder them. In contrast, Iran are strong at the back while lacking forwards of any great strength.
Tonight's programme also includes action from the Group H match Argentina v Jamaica and the Group F clash Germany v Yugoslavia. Introduced by Desmond Lynam with Alan Hansen and David Ginola.
Commentary is by Barry Davies and David Pleat.
