From the political unrest of the late 1960s to Solidarnosc in 1980, Lutoslawski's career continued to develop outside Poland with engagements all over the world conducting and recording his works. Donald Macleod looks at the composer's works of this period, in which he continued to refine his musical language, often finding inspiration in the playing of particular performers - the cellist
Mstislav Rostropovich and the baritone Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau among them.
