Genius of the Violin
Live at London's Barbican, the London
Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Marin Alsop , and three violinists from different musical genres launch this new festival, which promises 280 hours of violinistic events of all sorts over the next fortnight. Tonight's gala opening concert includes classical virtuoso showpieces performed by Maxim Vengerov , Hungarian Gypsy fire from Roby Lakatos and his band, and jazz fusion from Didier Lockwood.
