Visitors to the Proms

on BBC Radio 3

An occasional series of highlights of foreign orchestras that visited the 1996 BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, London. This was the first appearance at the Proms for Russia's newest orchestra, a virtuoso band created by pianist and conductor Mikhail Pletnev, who combined his delight in Haydn with a natural affinity for his native Russian tradition. The orchestra appeared in two Proms, and this programme combines the highlights of both concerts.

Russian National Orchestra, conductor Mikhail Pletnev

Haydn Symphony No 100 in G (Military)

Lyadov Baba-Yaga: The Enchanted Lake; Kikimora

Prokofiev Symphony No 7
