T. Maskell Hardy
This is not a broadcast about 'Swing, Swing Together' or 'Dulce Domum' or 'Forty Years On'. The old school songs referred to are some of those that were sung in the elementary schools in the 'forties, 'fifties, and 'sixties.
Maskell Hardy is a retired London headmaster with a prodigious knowledge of school music. He has made a collection of these songs and remembers many of them. Some of them, he says, were incredibly 'silly and sloppy'. He remembers one old schoolmaster who used a trombone to teach his children 'Twinkle, twinkle, little star'. He will sing extracts from some of the songs at the microphone.
This broadcast should be amusing, but it will also be a tribute to the advance made in school music teaching over the last forty years.
