Friday Feature: Synge Song

on BBC Radio 3

Everyone knows of The
Playboy of the Western World and its author John Millington Synge. Hardly anyone knows that Synge began life as a composer of some talent. Musician and writer Ann Mann looks at the music in Synge's work and includes first performances of his compositions for violin and piano, played by Krysia Ostostowicz and Timothy Carey , with contributions from Synge scholars Anne Saddlemeyer and Declan Kiberd and the people of the Aran Islands. With readings by Kate Binchy and Jim Norton.
