The Beast of Corleone
For more than ten years,
Salvatore Riina was the Boss of Bosses - the Godfather - of the Mafia, the world's largest criminal organisation. From the Sicilian town of Corleone, Riina was a ruthless boss who ordered the murders of judges, politicians and hundreds of Mafiosi. In January, after 23 years on the run, he was arrested. Gavin Hewitt looks at how this semi-literate man achieved absolute power, protected by a web of judges, intelligence agents and politicians. Does his arrest mark a decisive turning point in the struggle against organised crime? Producer Barbara Want
