Every year the men of Gubbio in Umbria take out puppet figures of the three local Saints, mount them on huge wooden pillars, run them round in circles and then, as fast as possible, up to the top of the hill. Between times cheese rolling is a popular pursuit. In Italy Gubbio has a reputation for eccentricity.
