This morning's programme Is devoted entirely to Vivaldi, and the main item is an excerpt from his oratorio Judiths Triumphans. It was composed in' 1716 for performance by the girls at the Ospedale della Pieta, one of four institutions in Venice for orphaned or unwanted children. Vivaldi was employed there intermittently for most of his working life.
