Islands
With Richard Baker.
3: Iceland. No one knows for sure, but Iceland may be the island described by the fourth-century explorer
Pytheas as "Ultima Thule" - believed by the ancients to be the last land mass you would pass before you fell of the edge of the earth into whatever lay beyond. Its landscape of ice fields, lava beds, volcanos and hot springs provides a dramatic backdrop to the music produced by the island's inhabitants, which is, like the country that inspires it, freezing and boiling at the same time.
