One hundred years ago today Fiji was ceded to the British Crown by the ' King ' of Fiji, Ratu Cakobau. Miss C. Gordon Cumming went to Fiji in the 1870s as companion to the Governor's wife, and wrote home a series of letters describing life in ' The Cannibal Isles.'
