DOCTOR THORNE

on BBC Home Service Basic

by ANTHONY TROLLOPE adapted for radio in thirteen episodes by H. Oldfield Box Episode 5
Doctor Thorne, having learned from Sir Roger Scatcherd the terms of his will, has felt himself in honour bound to tell him the long kept secret of Mary Thome's true identity; that Mary, in fact, is the niece-born out of wedlock-of both of them. But the doctor has refused Sir Roger's suggestion that she should visit him and Lady Scatcherd. Not for untold gold could he subject Mary to the misery of staying at Boxall Hill, as the acknowledged niece of its uncouth owner.
Frank Gresham has gone to Courcy
Castle to meet the heiress, Miss Dunstable. His mother, Lady Arabella, has decided to take the opportunity of his absence to bring Mary's visit to Greshamsbury to an end.
