Combining the seriousness of antique hunting with the fun of a competition this new eight-part series is being described as " The Antiques Roadshow's younger cousin". Each week two pairs of contestants are given tasks that will reveal both their ability to spot a real antique and their eye for quality.
The tasks are set by Antiques Roadshow experts and in this first programme include an early morning trip to Bermondsey Market in London to buy a piece of silver, the identification of a real diamond from a paste one and a spell on the rostrum at a Bond Street auction house.
Presenter Jilly Goolden, best known for her appearances on Food and Drink, admits she knows nothing about antiques. Even so, she was caught up in the atmosphere of bargain hunting at antique auctions: "I had enormous difficulties with my right arm.... it kept straying upwards and waving!"
