' Assyria and Israel: The Story of Sennacherib '
E. A. CRADDOCK
Today's broadcast will take listeners back to the walls of Jerusalem 2,500 years ago, when Sennacherib, King of the Assyrians, assembled his warriors outside the gates and demanded the surrender of King Hezekiah.
The Old Testament describes the deliverance of Jerusalem by a plague which smote the Assyrians at the gates of the city. Ancient Assyrian tablets also tell the tale, but make no mention of the plague and declare in the words of Sennacherib : ' Hezekiah himself like a caged bird I shut up within Jerusalem, his royal city '.
