Dupré's improvisations for Notre-Dame vespers were to lead to a brilliant recital career, while Duruflé's skills with instrumental colour won him a reputation as "the best orchestrator since Ravel". Tim Thome meets Duruflé's wife Marie-Madeleine Duruflé-Chevalier, who was a pupil of Dupré.
