The Chequered Ride

on BBC One London

Macdonald Hastings takes a look at 'the old grid' - the motor-bike.

The story of the motor-cycle is part of Midland history and began at the turn of the century. Until the second world war motor-bikes from the Midlands were world beaters - as George Formby proves!
The post-war days saw the Italian scooter craze, the Japanese light-weights, and the 'Mods and Rockers' in Britain. The British sporting bike is still supreme, and the industry earns more dollars than the car makers. But what kind of motor-cycle will we see in the year 2000?
