Mary Stocks
Mrs. Stocks, who is to give this evening's book talk, is the widow of J. L. Stocks , late Vice-Chancellor of Liverpool University. Many listeners will remember her broadcast in the series ' Gambling ' in January this year, and also her broadcast in March in ' Men Talking ', in which series, by the way, she was the first woman to speak. She is especially well known to northern listeners, and is famous for the number of Royal Commissions she has served on.
