2/2. Stuart Maconie tells the story of Steven Patrick Morrissey, who, with guitarist/songwriter Johnny Marr, led the incomparably influential 80s pop-rock band the Smiths and, in 1987, forged a solo career that, while less vital, has sustained an intense cult following. This concluding part recalls his "exile" to Los Angeles following a controversial Finsbury Park gig, and his recent re-emergence as an iconic UK star while living in Rome. Contributors include Smiths producer Stephen Street, Smiths bass guitarist Andy Rourke, singers Preston (of the Ordinary Boys), Badly Drawn Boy and Suggs, playwright Willy Russell and comedian/drummer Andrew Paresi, plus friends and fans.
