Baroness Warnock, Mistress of Girton College, Cambridge, gives the 13th in this series of annual lectures before an invited audience at the Royal Society of Arts in London.
Teacher Teach Thyself
Mary Warnock addresses Britain's teachers and parents of those children now in Britain's schools. She finds a declining morale, and argues that the teachers must now educate themselves. She speaks from personal experience and a lifetime spent in education, both as lecturer in philosophy at Oxford University and as a headmistress.
Mary Warnock believes that many teachers have forgotten the real purpose of education.
Tonight she redefines their role, and argues that they deserve greater respect from both parents and government.
She presents her own ideas on how teachers can help themselves, and in doing so bring a greater professionalism to schools. Introduced by Alasdair Milne ,
