Mendelssohn wrote his D minor double concerto in 1823 when he Was fourteen, but the score was not published until 1966. Performances had, however, been heard on the Continent before then. It was often played by the Mendelssohn family at private concerts Eiven in their home, with the composer himself playing the complicated piano part. Although Mendelssohn is styled a Romantic, the influence of Bach and Beethoven is very noticeable in the first and last movements.
