Lucia di Lammermoor
Walter Scott 's novel The Bride of Lammermoor inspired Donizetti to create one of the greats of Italian Romantic opera. Lucia is in love with Edgardo, her family's greatest enemy, but is tricked into marrying another man. Edgardo reappears too late to stop the wedding and curses
Lucia, who loses her reason and begins a concluding train of deadly events. A major hit in 1835, Lucia remains populartoday not only as a supreme vocal showcase, but also as a great story of love, murder and madness illuminated by Donizetti's glorious music.
