British Sign Language

on BBC One London

A Beginner's Guide
Lorna Allsop explains that although each country has its own sign language the underlying 'rules' are similar.
One of the most important 'rules' of BSL is the way that signers use space to place people and things in relation to each other. This 'placement' is important when giving descriptions of where objects are on a table, describing a street scene, describing a room, and many other situations.
