The Admiral's Cup
Tomorrow 48 yachts representing the cream of ocean racing will set off on the famous Fastnet race. The object is to win the Admiral's Cup, the Grand Prix of British offshore racing. Sixteen nations have already been battling for the honours over four races off the south coast. The 605-mile race from Cowes to the Fastnet rock off Southern Ireland and then back to Plymouth will finally decide the issue. On the eve of departure Bob Fisher looks at the competition, the boats and the story so far.
