The Monday Play: Miss Havisham's Wedding Day

on BBC Radio 4 FM

by Carolyn Sally Jones
[Starring] Elizabeth Proud and Michael Williams

'Miss.... Hav-i-sham. Call me that now. For that's what I have and that's what I am. And it's enough. The house and the feast and the bridal night without end. Oh, but I wanted... I wanted to turn to the light... and find it. I wanted the sun.'
The play opens in Bengal in 1777, when Ester Havisham is 13 years old. It explores the enigma of Miss Havisham, the desolate and vengeful figure who haunts Dickens'
Great Expectations.
