Ravel's Suite Le Tombeau de Couperin was composed during the period which gave us L'Heure Espagnole, the Spanish Rhapsody, the Valse nobles et sentimentales, and Daplmis and Chloe.
Originally six pieces for pianoforte, orchestrated later, the Suite is an act pf homage to Ravel's illustrious ancestor in the music of France, and while a" its themes are characteristic of the great Couperin's manner, their presentation is characteristic of Ravel's charm of subtlety.
