L. Hugh Newman, F.R.E.S., talks about the courtship of moths and butterflies watch the courtship flight of the Small Tortolseshells and the beautiful Peacock butterflies. Few people realise that butterflies indulge in a courtship which may weM be compared to that of some binds. They use their sensitive antennae and the ardent suitor strokes the lovely wings of his mate and foldows her about in a prolonged and intricate flight. Sceot also plays a part, but undike the prevailing cusiom among humans, in the butterfly world it is the male who is scented and scatters has scent scales in the air in order to create the right atmosiphere for love.
