Opera Matinee: The Palace

on BBC Radio 3

The most recent opera by Finnish composer Aulls Sailinen is written to a libretto by Irene Dische and Hans Magnus Enzensberger. According to the librettists, it is a drama about the underdeveloped, about a hopeless transition from an age-old reign of terror to a new, revolutionary terror - a fateful logic which almost always leads to civil war. The libretto was inspired by the book The King of Kings by Polish writer Ryszard Kapuscinski , describing the last days of Haile Selassie's regime This recording of the world premiers production was made at the Savoniinn: Opera Festival. Sung in Finnish
Savonlinna Opera Festival Chorus and Orchestra, conductor Okko Kamu
