Last of a group of talks in which various speakers have been asked to choose an area and describe the kinds of life to be found in it
Hampstead Heath by John Hillaby
The nine-hundred-odd acres of Hampstead Heath, spread over high ground in north-west London, represent an urbanised relic in which a few of the original species still survive. It is also, as Mr. Hillaby says, ' an aircraft carrier in the midst of the city ' for migrating birds. He is a member of a group of biologists who are studying the Heath and working to preserve its species.
